Christ’s Hospital, the institution in Newgate Street, familiarly known as the Blue-Coat School, dates back as far as the time of Edward VI. It was established as a school for the children of poor parents; and there are about eleven hundred here and at a preparatory branch at Hertford, receiving a good education.
